my project skeleton/ skin

this is the design that i chose to make for my skeleton/ skin project. I am a little weary that since it is so geometric that it is going to be difficult to make. the design is very simple so it will have less room for mistakes because over correcting with copper wire (which I am using for the skeleton) can be very noticeable. for the skin i am going to use wax paper or tracing paper that i am going to paint with liquithick gel epaississant mixed with a colored acrylic paint, this will give it a translucent effect and it will make the paper more sturdy. I am going to put the skin on by sewing it to the copper wire skeleton. I am unsure what color I am going to make the skin but I am falling towards a yellowish orange i think that i will use black thread to connect the skin but still i will have to see how it contrasts to the color i decide for the skin. Also I am going to have my finished project suspended from the ceiling and each edge of the design will be connected with fishing line. I like where i have decided to put the skin because at first glance it will look like two suspended flat planes, only to realize that the flat planes are part of a more constructed 3-d design. with the flat planes one above the other i think that it has the look of an airplane, like one of the first ones of the wright brothers. I do have more sketches for this project but am still figuring out if i want to scan them or photograph them. I will figure it out tomorrow.

Brad Neely

wow, yeah, there is so much i need to say about brad neely because he is one of my all time favorite artists. i remember the first time i heard about brad neely was last year around my birthday. my birthday is on st partick's day and a friend had sent me the 'bring the gold' video through a post on myspace. i loved it so much that i looked him up on youtube and found out about his other comic video like series 'baby cakes' and 'professor brothers'. I also found out that brad neely has a whole series of comics that are just as hilarious as his videos you can see them all by going to the web page
http://www.creasedcomics.com/
he also puts his own narrative to the first harry potter movie. i love brad neely so much that i almost cant stand it because i am almost jealous. he is so funny and so talented, why couldn't i do this? his songs too, are so good if you have the time i would recommend going to you tube and looking up 'washington' and 'cat people' not to mention all of 'baby cakes diaries'.

Derek Erdman

well you can start to see what kind of style that i like. i do really like comical art. people may have the misconception that really good art has to be so serious and so professional but i completely disagree. i think that this art is really good and i would love to see art like this someday in a more professional setting instead of just on the internet or on the streets. derek erdman has a strange way about him besides doing these sort os paintings he also has a communal aspect to him because on his web site you can send him money and a photograph of yourself and he will paint your portrait even more bizzare is that he has a thing called 12 dollar raps and he also does alot of street art in his home city chicago. with 12 dollar raps you send marice (which i think is actually derek erdman) a complaint that you have. well here is what it says on the website

BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE?
TERRIBLE MEAL AT A RESTAURANT?
TIRED OF A WORN OUT RELATIONSHIP?
WAYWARD RELATIVE OWES YOU MONEY?
UNABLE TO BE PASSIVE-AGGRESSIVE?
MAURICE IS ON THE JOB!

Rap Master Maurice is willing to VIGILANTE MIND BATTLE RAP CALL
anybody who has done you wrong. Simply PayPal $12 and give a brief explanation of
the trouble and you're EVEN STEPHEN. Do it now because soon it will
cost $17 and you will say to yourself, "I SHOULD HAVE DONE IT WHEN IT WAS $12".

Supply the telephone number and the info, THE RAP IS MADE.

NOTICE: The price of non-revenge "friendly" raps has changed

Henry Yuen

Yeap Just everyday genre scenes by Henry Yuen! Everyday but something is missing. Hmm can't figure it out!

from his website http://www.hevanet.com/hjlyuen/beach.htm

Thank you for your support and interest in my art. The inspiration for my watercolors and silkscreened prints are from sketches that I made on location. I am always happy to show people my sketches when they see me working on location. It takes about 4-6 weeks to complete a painting or edition of serigraphs. If there is a particular sketch that you would like to see as a painting or silkscreen, let me know and I will do my best. If you are wondering about an older painting or serigraph, click here, private collections, for watercolors and screen prints that are no longer available.

Shiori Matsumoto

Shiori Matsumoto Biography and art statement

I was born in 1973 at Kagawa-prefecture in Japan. My main influence is surrealism, symbolism, modern illustration, and things by Japanese subculture.

Many kind of different girls would appear in my paintings. They are playing with imagination and trying to change the world with their own ritual. Their existence are neutral, beautiful and sensitive but also cruel and lonely at sometimes. I guess that might be ghost of myself in past.

My painting world are developed by European nostalgie and the yearning would never reach into my minds.

problems starting out

I have had some technical difficulties with the blog but i am back on so, I don't know, I am still going to stick with the blog. what happened exactly is that my blog just disappeared my account was saying that i had never published a blog before so as you can imagine i was pretty upset I mean i haven't put that much work into it yet but how discouraging would it be if at the end of the semester my blog just disappears into the unknown realms of cyberspace and all of my hard work is lost. i think that this problem happens a lot because there was a link to help me find my blog underneath the settings written something like omg i lost my blog click here. Im just glad to have you back bloggie baby.
Another annoying problem that i am faced with is that i have no idea how to work my scanner to publish my sketch book. i could take pictures of them, but i have this new fancy all-in-one printer, copier, fax, and scanner tool that i need to learn how to use. i figured how to scan but the program that came with it is super confusing and i can't figure out how to crop or mess around with the settings to get the scan more legible, is that the right word, well so that i can get the fine lines to show up in the drawings.
anyway i just wanted to vent to the blog about the blog
gosh i wish that i was a robot sometimes

Isabel Samaras

above is the original ----- Raft of the Medusa
Gericault-------1818
Isabel Samaras is a wonderful brilliant artist based out of New York. I love her work because it is witty and i really enjoy how she incorporates people and characters from pop culture mainly people and whole casts from television shows. the painting above is actually themed from a classic oil painting from the 18th century by french romantic painter Theodore Gericault. Ok really how awesome can artwork get? what an idea. this is not the only sort of replica from classic art that she does and i would recommend looking at the others because they are so entertaining to look at. She also has an erotic style that is both erotic and funny because of the popular culture. A four-some with the Adams family and the monsters who would have thought? what a brilliant mind i like the way that Isabel Samaras thinks.

god she is so funny! and she probably has so much fun doing these

oh pee wee this is by far one of my favorite paintings of all time because it is well done and it has a comical aspect to it. if i had the money and a fire place mantle i would buy this and enjoy it everyday!

Blogs

Ok, so this is my blog. This is the first time that I have ever done a blog. With today's technology I think that it is important to learn how to do a blog and that is why for my art 108 class I decided to try making a blog instead of keeping a journal. Fun! I guess we will see how this turns out!

raboty moonyk

This is a cool painting this artist is really neat and talented. I wish that I could say the name of the artist but I am afraid that I can't. It looks Russian maybe, but I am unsure. Gosh this persons paintings are rad! I think that the name of the artist is Raboty Moonyk.
